Chess in crisis by J.D. Walker
CHESS REDESIGN Mats raises issues that have concerned me for some time. I came back to chess after a 25 year layoff. I left the game as a NM 2235 USCF. When I came back to chess, it had radically changed. I spent about six months exploring the new chess world in a process of deciding if chess had anything worthwhile for me today. As a result, I decided to formally retire from...

Sanny: Some test positions for you by Guest[_3_]
Sanny; Here are some standard test positions for you to use with GetClub chess. The classic Bratko-Kopec test and the Win-At-Chess test. There are many other test sets, but these are classics that most people use. The Bratko-Kopec tests are particularly intersting, since they've been around so long and so many programs have done it. They aren't extensive enough, which is why people use...

CHESS REDESIGN – V0.1 by J.D. Walker
CHESS REDESIGN – V 0.1 Consider the following idea. You arrive at your favorite chess hangout and see someone new sitting in a corner. He appears to be an out-of-towner. You go over and invite him to play. He counters your proposal with an offer to play a new type of chess. Somewhat puzzled, you agree. You ask him to explain what he has in mind.

Big Bug found removed from GetClub Chess. by Sanny
A big bug was found and removed. Now it will not show awkward scores. I was very worried it used to show +2 benefit in equal positions. Now it show 0.02 in equal position. So the Scores will be correct as per the position of the board. That was a great Bug which give 2 pawn losses in equal positions.

[Beginner] Moving only pawns in the opening by mike bishop
Hi, I'm a bit of a beginner, and I keep getting beaten by opponents who move only their pawns for about the first six moves. I wonder if anyone can advise me. Unfortunately, I'm not able to replay any of these games, but the one I just played on Yahoo went something like the following (I'm white, he's black):

Sam Sloan comments on being sued by Susan Polgar for $25 million "It is terrible being sued for $25 million. That will put me down to my last $2 oo $3 million." "This is the worst thing to happen to me since 1996 when Elwyn Berlekamp sued me for violations of the Sherman and Clayton Anti-Trust Acts for monopolizing the game of go."

Attorney who filed the Polgar vs. USCF lawsuit is on youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cEx6uEEV48 Please take a look. In view of the entirely frivolous nature of the Polgar lawsuit, I suspect that he might not be an attorney much longer. Sam Sloan

Randy Bauer Fails to Attend the Board Meeting by samsloan
Randy Bauer Fails to Attend the Board Meeting In the USCF Executive Bard meeting just concluded, Randy Bauer is a no- show. He apparently sent a BINFO stating that he is not coming tomorrow either. He is extremely upset about Susan Polgar's lawsuit against the USCF. I have to wonder whether he might be resigning.

Why the motion lost in Dallas by samsloan
Why the motion lost in Dallas. I was here in Dallas in the back of the room listening but I did not speak. I do not know how many people realized that they were talking about me the entire time. The motions lost by about 39 to 26. Looking around the room, I could see that everybody voting against the motions to ask Truong to resign were non-computer people, people who rarely if ever read the...

Chess in "The Front" Starring Woody Allen by samsloan
There was an incident involved in the making of the 1976 movie "The Front", starring Woody Allen. One of the early scenes in the movie shows Woody Allen playing the Ruy Lopez against his Communist contact in a dingy chess club. That dingy chess club was the "Chess House" owned by Charlie Hidalgo, located on 72nd Street half way between Broadway and Columbus on the North Side of the Street. It...

The name of the case is USCF vs. Does 1-10 http://www.anusha.com/uscf-does.pdf It is on the basic of this case that a legal proceeding was instituted against Polgar and Truong in Lubbock Texas last week, as obviously the persons who filed the case in San Francisco believe that the true

Thank you Bill Brock for your One Penny book!!! by samsloan
Bill Brock sold me a book on eBay for one cent. Of course, he probably did not realize that he was selling it to me because the real identity of the buyer is not generally revealed until the auction is over. Also, I did not immediately realize that he was the seller when I bid on that and other chess books. The book Bill Brock boldly sold me was "The 64-Square Looking Glass: Great Games of Chess...
